Midnight

#Midnight --> #New #Contemporary #Romance #Book --> #Teaser

---> Little lanterns along the wall lit the entrance to the caves. At the opening, it was set up like all tourist attractions. Large rooms opened up to showcase the history of the... caves. There were pictures and writings on the walls that discussed the history of the caves. There were maps that give a crude overlay, but with warnings written in red that the caves were not completely mapped and may be unpredictable.

"What's so funny?" said Tessa, almost able now to walk upright in front of him.
"Oh I was just thinking how the Boy Scouts would hate me. Not having a flashlight and all," Roger covered.
"Agreed."
"Hey! You're the one that's done this before, and you didn't bring one."
"Yes, but you see..." and then there was a shriek, or a squeal, Roger wasn't sure, but he was very sure of the thud and the laughter. He could not see her anymore.
"Tessa? Tessa!" Roger yelled.
More laughter. "Hey, watch that next step. It's a bit of a dip."
Roger cautiously stuck one foot out and felt nothing. He got down on his knees and peered into the darkness. He had just been following Tessa and not paying attention to focusing on anything. He slowly realized that there was a shallow hole in front of him and Tessa was lying in it.
Roger took a couple of steps to the side and reached out both hands to her. "Here, I'll help you up."
Her hands slipped into his but she didn't let him pull her up, instead, he felt a gentle pull.
